KIDS BEHIND THE CAMERA – KHMER "YOUTH TODAY" SPEAKS OUT
"Support Children and Young People" (SCY) is the first NGO in Cambodia
that is
giving Cambodian kids the opportunity to participate in media advocacy.
SCY has
established the "YOUTH TODAY" program with support of UNICEF, which is a
TV magazine
aiming to provide children and young people in Cambodia with opportunities
to voice
their concerns and speak about their interests. Cambodian private
broadcaster CTN
airs the innovative format every Sunday morning. Tonight at Meta House
young Khmer
reporters will stay up late to present a selection of their works, which
focus on a
wide range ob subjects – from climate change to break-dance (Q&A).

"PAY OR DIE?" – DISCUSSING CAMBODIA'S NEW HEALTH REFORMS
By the end of 2009, four public hospitals in Phnom Penh will become
autonomous. The
Cambodian grassroots NGO "Women's Agenda for Change" (WAC) fears that this
step will
not improve health conditions for Cambodians, but will limit the
accessibility of
services. WAC has asked META HOUSE to produce the advocacy film "PAY OR
DIE?, that
we will screen tonight for the first time – together with other health
documentaries
by Khmer directors such as Om Kimsour. Filmmakers, interview partners and
health
experts are invited for a Q&A after the screening. WAC's "Messenger Band"
will
contribute a capella songs about the consequences of privatisation.

THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE: KEEP THE CANNIBALS ON YOUR RIGHT
Don't miss this doc! In 1955, 34-year-old gay Jewish painter Tobias
Schneebaum, who
had grown up in Brooklyn landed a Fulbright scholarship and trekked into the
Peruvian Amazon with his sketchpad and camera. Schneebaum formed an
intimate bond
with the members of one tribe whose males were physically intimate but
also attacked
another village, killed most of its inhabitants, and cooked and ate parts
of them.
His 1969 memoir "Keep the River On Your Right" became a cult classic.
Brother and
sister filmmakers David and Laurie Gwen Shapiro convinced him to return to
that
momentous place in 1999, at the age of 78. (2000, 94 min
