ក្នុងដំណើរជីវិតមនុស្សចាប់តាំងពីថ្ងៃកើតរហូត
ដល់ស្លាប់ទៅវិញ តែងមានពិធីផេ្សងៗតាមដំណាក់ កាលរៀងៗខ្លួន (ដែលហៅថា “ពិធីឆ្លងវ័យ”)។ ចំពោះ “ចូលម្លប់” គឺជាពិធីមួយសម្រាប់ មនុស្ស ស្រីពេញវ័យដំបូង។
មកដល់បច្នុប្បន្ន មានមនុស្សច្រើនណាស់ស្មានថា ពិធីចូលម្លប់បាត់បង់ជាយូរអង្វែងហើយ ពុំមានអ្នក ណាធ្វើទៀតទេ យើងមិនដឹងដំណើរដើមទងនិង កិច្ចពិធីនោះធ្វើយ៉ាងម៉េចខ្លះឡើយ។

"ENTERING THE SHADE" :
A FEMALE NUBILITY OR PRE-MARRIAGE RITE

In Khmer culture like in many others, of each important stage of the lige cycle, specific religous ceremonies such as birth, cutting the top-knot, ordination, Chol Mlop, marrige and funeral ceremonies are performed. These ceremonies are khnow among researchers as "rites of passage".

The lecture will be focusing on one of the coremonies, known as Chol Mlop. The Chol Mlop literally means "entering the shade" which is a ceremony for a girl who reaches her puberly. After the period of her seclusiion in the "shade", the girl is socially accepted as a nubile young woman. Notably, the ceremony is thus far taken for granted that it is no longer practiced in Cambodia. Therefore, this presenation is also intended to depict the current ritual practices in some parts of Cambodia, which are on the edge of disappearance.
