Voter Alert 1: REGISTRATION & BALLOT REQUEST DEADLINES LOOM

Your vote is critical. Register now at www.VoteFromAbroad.org !!
Twenty-five states, including nine swing states Colorado, Florida,
Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, have registration
deadlines in the next two weeks.
Voters in the following states (who have not yet registered and/or
requested their ballots) must ensure that their FPCAs are sent in NOW!

All of these states except for NY and WY will accept faxed FPCAs. Please use
the following US fax number: +1-703-693-5527 (the toll free numbers in many
parts of the world do not work). All faxes are received in Virginia by the
Federal Voting Assistance Program. The FVAP will log in the date and time
that the fax was received and then forward it on to your local election
official. For deadline purposes, your form is deemed received when it
arrives on the FVAP's fax machine, but you still must MAIL the original form
to your local election official.

Exceptions: NY and WY do NOT accept faxes. The only way to meet the
deadlines for NY and WY is to ensure that your original FPCA arrives in the
local election office by mail no later than the deadline. (NY and WY will
also accept FPCAs by commercial courier.) NOTE: FPCAs need NOT carry a
foreign postmark!

Later Deadlines: The other states have later registration deadlines. Check
them here: http://democratsabroad.org/registration_dates and watch for our
forthcoming Voter Alerts. You can expect these every few days through
October.
To check the status of your registration, check
http://democratsabroad.org/registration_links. If your state is not listed,
contact your local election official. You can find this information at
www.Votesmart.org/voter_county_election_offices.php

LIKE A LITTLE SMELL, NO?

LIKE A LITTLE SMELL, NO?

A usual, first I apologise for my strange English (and then I dream
you sometimes answer to me in Spanish or French just for me to laugh
too…)

But anyway, today's subject is not that easy to speak about: Environment… Look at it for real; polluting is so good …Not that we enjoy destroying the Planet but all our activities are piling up stuff that we do not know what to do with it…

Who want to loose his access to progress ? …

Who is ready to stop using his car, motorbike, cellular phone, air con. and so on?

...Or so just to stop dreaming to get one… We know that everything we touch is pollution before, when, and after we use it… even vegetables are now riddled with pesticides and spoiled by genetic manipulation.

Everything we touch.

I say the problem is that we all think that it will stop when the big factories, chemical labs and other big pollution culprits will start taking care and come up with cleaner proposals… So indeed we do nothing and we say: You First… But… as Profit is driving the world, it 's difficult to expect big pollution actors to have spontaneous reactions…so first, all of us have to care about our own gardens, surround providersdings, Countries…

It is probably more clever than waiting … and die by suffocation, radiation, poisonning or other modern consequences…. And it's not that far… check the rivers and the supposedly drinkable water coming from underground reserves, look how the dangerous peaks are rising up…

If it was only the richest countries concerned… but the poors also Want to produce pollution … they have been missing so long and they just begin to … and they spoil faster as they go straight to new technologies without clear vision of impact….

Environment is a new issue, look behind in Europe: the car invasion begun really in the 60's , and plastic bag the same, remember the beaches and countryside five years after…. 30 years of school education, large communication campaigns and hard penalties are only starting to take effect … let's say that we all know now where is the rubbish place … using it or not shows a degree of insertion in those societies…And populations now are more or less aware about the danger of
using certain products or materials…

But what can we do in countries that just opened to modern world ?

For example in Cambodia what should we do or say, first? What should we begin with? What are the priorities?…

Hey hey do not answer all in the same time, I can not follow you …

Listen : from 21st November to 4th December Bhor All in Art Centre organise a big festival which will focusing about pollution and environment … A stage with big free performances, and the 1200 m2 of Bhor building totally transformed into an interactive exhibition with actors driving you in…

So all your propositions matters to us : about new techniques (like Mr Biodiesel who will be with us) about recycling, re-using (like this Australian org. using old plastic bags to built roofs, not eternal but an interesting second life to these bags.) any information is precious…. Jump aboard!

You ? what could you do ? you have a good idea about anti wasting ? you could present some thing on stage ? ( like Epic Arts, or the Mekong Pirates,CCF…) would you like to share IEC material, human resources or naturally some money to help producing this event (like B.inc, Mlop tapang, Bhor, SCA … ) Do not be shy, contact us…. And join the big Event…

Chaque année, au mois d’octobre, de nombreuses manifestations littéraires se déroulent en France et dans le monde. THIS IS OUR FREE META HOUSE PROGRAMME 4 THE COMING DAYS….

FRI, 03/10, 8PM GENOCIDE IN RWANDA
The doc "PIECING TOGETHER RWANDA'S PAST" (2007, 21min) shows how
propaganda was used
to incite violence leading to the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. The BBC feature
"SHOOTING
DOGS" (2005, 110min) by Hugh Dancy is based on real events: On 11th April
1994 over
2500 Rwandans were abandoned by the UN at the "Ecole Technique officielle de
Kicukiro" and later murdered by extremist militias. (Q&A after screening
–in coop.
with Youth for Peace, DED)

SAT, 04/10, 8PM GUATEMALA: WHEN THE MOUNTAINS TREMBLE
Filmmakers Yates/Sigel shot this documentary (Guatemala/USA,1985, 82min)
at the
height of a heated battle between the heavily-armed Guatemalan Military
and a nearly
defenseless Mayan population with firsthand accounts by Nobel Peace Prize
winner
Rigoberta Menchu. (Q&A after screening – in coop. with Youth for Peace, DED)

SUN, 05/10, 8PM META MUSIC: JONI MITCHELL
"Shadows and Lights" was shot during an historic 1979 tour, where Mitchell
was at
the peak of her powers. The band was a dream, including Pat Metheny,
Michael Brecker
and the legendary, late, great Jaco Pastorius The playing is so uniformly
good that
it is obvious everyone enjoyed working together.

NEXT WEEK:
TUES, 07/10, 6PM
EXHIBITION OPENING "KHMER OBSCURA"

Argentinean photographer Carolina Furque and Australian artist Stephen
Eastaugh drop
into METAHOUSE for an exhibition of mixed media work employing painting,
sewing and
photography techniques.

Carolinas photographic works are rather dark, distorted temples. Fuzzy and
obscure
images that are part of an ongoing visual essay capturing distorted
panoramic cities
across the world. Eastaugh's paintings are often quirky, odd and
dislocated due to
his constant travels over the past twenty five years. His work in this
show is based
on his many visits into the Khmer world – but as a foreigner he recognizes
that he
will never have a very precise nor clear vision of what happens in this
exotic land.

Touching upon Buddhism, bombs, architecture and wines with apparent
aphrodisiac
qualities these two artists from very different parts of the globe attempt to
confuse, amuse, obscure and focus their energy in Phnom Penh from the 7th
to 30th
October at METAHOUSE.
