CAMBODIAN DIRECTORS (1)
1 GIVING BACK shows a recycling project at Bergvliet High School (Cape
Town/South Africa) â€" directed by Phana Chheng, while he was studying
documentary filmmaking in Cape Town, 2007/2008.
2 THE WAVE OF CHANGE highlights the real voices and lives of the people
who have been affected by and living along the Mekong (directed by
filmmaker Reap Chum and journalist from Thailand, Laos and Vietnam)
3 TOMORROW by Cambodian filmmaker Om Kimsour tells about the impact of
globalization in Ratanakiri

THE BURNT THEATRE by Rithy Panh
The Burnt Theatre, or Les Artistes du Théâtre Brûlé, is a
French-Cambodian docudrama directed by Rithy Panh. A blend of fact and
fiction, the film depicts a troupe of actors and dancers in the burned-out
shell of Cambodia's former national theatre in Phnom Penh.

Rare Super-16mm footage from Cambodian Palace archive - shot as
advertisement for the World Expo. Highly interesting propaganda film that
shows the development of Cambodia in the 1960s.

DOC NITE: HIV/AIDS IN SOUTH EAST ASIA
1. WITH HOPE AND HELP Filmmaker Georg Peter Mueller finds inspiring models
of support and acceptance within Khmer society. (2006, 52 min)
2. BATTLE OF LIFE Arte documentary by Nico Mesterharm about the first
Buddhist-Christian Aids hospice in Takeo province. (2002, 25 min)
3. HEAVEN’S MEADOW Moving film by Detlev Neufert about Thailand’s
first children’s village where HIV-positive orphans find again a family
and a future. (2005, 90 min)

FOCUS CAMBODIA
Rain Falls from Earth: Surviving Cambodia's Darkest Hour
A story of courage, of survival and of eventual triumph over the Communist
regime that was responsible for the deaths of over 2 million people.
Narrated by Academy Award nominated actor, Sam Waterston, this doc film
gives a voice to those lives that were senselessly lost. Filmmaker Steve
McClure will be present at the screening. (2008)
