GENOCIDE, JUSTICE AND THE KR TRIBUNAL
CAMBODIA 1979
After the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge Regime
Moderator: UK Author/Filmmaker Tom Fawthrop
Our panel of experts includes those who lived in Phnom Penh during the
extraordinary times in the 1980s: Boua Chantou (NGO Padek), Youk Chhang
(DCC) and Pen Samitthy (Rasmei Kampuchea) will be discussing the
following (Khmer/Engl. simultaneous translation!):
* 1979 - rebuilding a nation from Year Zero, a task made infinitely far
more difficult by a Western embargo that prohibited any development
aid (including UN aid) from reaching Cambodia.
* Efforts to hold the ousted Pol Pot regime accountable for their
crimes against humanity
* The impact of the continued recognition of the Pol Pot regime in the
UN and Western support for the Khmer Rouge against Vietnam.
* Was the Vietnamese-inspired â?oPeoples Revolutionary Tribunalâ?� in
August 1979 a show-trial? Did it have any validity?

Venezuela, 2002: People power reversed a military coup and reinstated
elected President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. TV station RCTV that had
backed the coup refused to televise the events. Documentary by
Bartley/Oâ?TBriain (Ireland) â?" presented by journalist/author Tom Fawthrop.

was the third chapter of a shared story that began with â?oDays of
