THE LAST WEEKEND BEFORE X-MAS @ META
DEAR META HOUSE FRIENDS,MERRY X-MAS AND A HAPPY 2009!
For the upcoming holidays, we wish you all the best: Peace & happiness.
META HOUSE IS CLOSED FROM 22ND DECEMBER TO 2ND JANUARY 2009
In January 2009 we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary.

FRI, 19/12, 8PM THE POST
One of Southeast Asia's legendary publications, the "Phnom Penh Post" was founded by editor Michael Hayes in 1992 as a bi-weekly newspaper. Tonite we screen a documentary from 1999: 9 years before the PHNOM PENH POST moved from our neighbourhood to the Phnom Penh Center and went daily - with a very young, very appealing Michael Hayes in the middle of the film. Don't miss - it's cult!
SAT, 20/12, 8PM NICE HAT!
David Brisbin is best known as a feature film production designer, having designed movies for such directors as Jane Campion and Gus Van Sant. Brisbin's first extensive encounter with Cambodians was as a reporter covering Cambodian refugees inside the Thai border in 1987 when Cambodia was still a closed country. NICE HAT is his first feature length doc film: A history of Cambodia seen entirely through hats and headgear. (with Rithy Panh, Ly Daravuth amm.)
SUN, 21/12, 8PM SET IN ASIA: "DRIVING WITH MY WIFE'S LOVER"
By Kim Tai-sik (In Korean with English subtitles, 92 min.)
A man living in the seaside town of Naksan discovers that his wife has taken a lover, who drives a taxi in Seoul. Tae-han sets out to confront him and seek vicious revenge. He has no difficulty convincing the gregarious and unknowing Joon-sik to drive him back to Naksan. During the journey, a comedy of errors ensues as director Kim shifts tones from ominous, to sad, to funny by creating a delightful off-centered atmosphere with anything-can-happen suspense. The two men are brought together in a tenuous but authentic camaraderie. Color-rich cinematography and an urbane banjo-driven music score.

Meta-House Update
Dear Friends of Meta House!
We would like to invite you for our new EXHIBITION OPENING
this Tuesday, December 02 @ 6 PM under the roof of the Phnom Penh Photo Festival
FRÉDÉRIC LECLOUX - "L'USURE DU MONDE"
In 1953-54, the Swiss writer Nicolas Bouvier and his painter friend Thierry Vernet travel in a Fiat Topolino from Belgrade to Afghanistan. L'Usure du Monde tells the story of this 17-month journey filled with wonder. Nicolas Bouvier as a traveler is obsessively slow and frugal, but at the same time, he has an insatiable desire for the real and for knowledge. There is an insistent, heady passion for being in the world, but as well, a certain ease and comfort in melancholy. Bouvier the writer has a way of honing in on the comical nature of daily life, and, in three adjectives, managing to give it universal weight. Frédéric Lecloux: "I was so moved by the luminous perfection with which Nicolas Bouvier crystallized this journey in such a perfect economy of words, that I couldn't read anything else for years. I had to exorcize this book. The only response possible was a departure."
